Samsung is apparently working on a unique Galaxy Z Fold 3 for China

Samsung launched the Galaxy W21 5G last year, which was a China-exclusive Galaxy Z Fold 2 with a taller design and an eye-watering price tag. Now, it looks like Samsung is working on a similar device for China based on the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 3.

SamMobile reports that the W22 5G is indeed in the pipeline, alleging that it has the model number SM-W2022 and will be available in black with 512GB of storage. There’s no word on how this device would differ from the Z Fold 2 though, but the outlet suggests that we could see cosmetic tweaks.

SamMobile adds that the W22 5G will only be launched in China once the standard Z Fold 3 is launched in August. This goes without saying really, as the W21 5G was only unveiled in November, several months after the Z Fold 2’s global launch.

Nevertheless, Samsung has a history of offering phones with ultra-premium prices in the market. Prior to its foldable phones, the firm offered luxury clamshell smartphones in China. Its most recent entry in this regard was the W2019, released at the tail-end of 2018 for ~$2,700. This price tag got you a clamshell smartphone with a physical T9 keypad, a 4.2-inch external screen (in addition to the internal display), and a Snapdragon 845 chipset.
